Digital preservation encompasses processes and activities that ensure that information in digital formats is securely backed up and distributed to guarantee long-term access.
Revista del Nacional (Itauguá) uses Open Journal Systems (OJS) 3.3.0.6, open-source journal management software developed, promoted, and distributed free of charge by the Public Knowledge Project (PKP PN) under a GNU General Public License.
This software is compatible with the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) system, a preservation service of the PKP PN program available for journals managed via OJS. LOCKSS is a permanent and secure archive that guarantees all manuscript metadata. An open source program developed by Stanford University Library that allows libraries to preserve selected web journals by regularly searching registered journals to collect newly published content and archive it. Each archive is continuously validated with records from other libraries, so any damaged or lost content can be restored.

The journal applies a backup policy by storing all its content on a personal computer, on external storage devices, and by indexing it in freely accessible full-text databases. Revista del Nacional (Itauguá) incorporates the persistent Digital Object Identifier (DOI) into all its content to guarantee permanent access and the Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID) number to facilitate recognition.
