Soledad y satisfacción con la vida en adultos mayores del Perú: efectos de mediación de la depresión

Resumen
Introducción: la soledad tiene un efecto negativo en la satisfacción con la vida, donde la depresión tendría un posible papel como variable mediadora, que necesita mayor investigación.
Objetivo: investigar cómo la depresión media la relación entre la soledad y la satisfacción con la vida en una muestra de adultos mayores peruanos.
Metodología: participaron 310 adultos mayores (M = 68.77; DE = 7.22). Se aplicaron la Patient Health Questionnaire 2, la UCLA-LS tres ítems y la Diener’s Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS).
Se probó un modelo de ecuaciones estructurales mediacional. También se evaluó la invarianza del modelo según sexo a través de un análisis factorial multigrupo. Además, se analizó la influencia de unas variables sobre otras desde un enfoque de magnitud del efecto.
Resultados: el modelo mediacional planteadomostró un ajuste adecuado (CFI = .950, TLI = .930; RMSEA = .067; SRMR = .048). La soledad tiene una relación inversa con la satisfacción con la vida (β = -.478) y una relación directa con la depresión (β = .566). Asimismo, la depresión tiene una relación inversa con la satisfacción con la vida (β = -.185). El efecto indirecto de la soledad hacia la satisfacción con la vida, a través de la depresión, fue de β = -.105. Se presentó evidencia favorable de invarianza de la medición por sexo.
Conclusiones: la depresión juega un mediador en la relación entre la soledad y la satisfacción con la vida entre los adultos mayores peruanos.
